The Institut
de l'Envelliment of the UAB (IE-UAB) is a non-profit foundation governed
by a board of trustees formed by the Universitat
Autònoma de Barcelona, the Fundació
Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Agrupació
Mútua del Comerç i de la Indústria.
The mission
of the Institut de l'Envelliment is to improve knowledge of different
aspects related to aging with the aim of enhancing the quality of life
of older people and promoting actions to contribute to adapt the society
and people to challenges of the demographic changes. The Institut de l'Envelliment
has set the following strategic objectives:
- To support
and conduct applied research on aging: active aging, state of health
of older people, the social and environmental determinant factors, maintenance
of functional autonomy, dependence, etc
- To encourage
the transfer of knowledge to the economic, social and political institutions
and to the elderly people organizations in order to adapt all services
to the needs and preferences of older people.
- To assess
health and social policies on aging and to give advice in order to improve
them.
- To analyse,
assess and advise on care, health and social services for older people.
- To create
an interdisciplinary forum on aging for institutions and professionals.
- To offer
specialized training and information on aging, specially aimed at professionals
devoted to caring for older people.
- To disseminate
recommendations to the public in order to promote active aging
- To promote
the participation of the elderly in the deployment of these obejctives.
- To create
a participation space for the elderly.
